I read a ton of reviews online and went for the X2 Hot driver. Got the package from Callaway and was VERY impressed. Looks brand new. Hits like it's in beast mode. Easy to adjust (watch the YouTube video where the Callaway pro shows how to adjust the Big Bertha and it'll work for the X2 Hot). Fantastic price. Fantastic driver. What we say...

Technology

Callaway claims the X2 Hot is nine yards longer than the X Hot. It features Callaway’s fastest, thinnest and lightest all-titanium driver face ever. The sweetspot is 10 per cent larger while a new head shape improves aerodynamics. An adjustable hosel lets you increase or decrease loft (+2° and -1°) and change the lie angle independently.

Looks

The winning matt silver crown is slightly darker, the graphics on its perimeter have carried over from the X Hot. Other than the orange details, little has changed from an aesthetic point of view.

Feel/sound

You’re making a statement if you use this driver. The headcover is bold, the sole funky and the loud sound lets you and everyone around know a ball has been hit hard. It feels strong, but not overly firm.

Performance

Driver

Myself and the pro that tried it started by hitting everything left. But by playing with the adjustability I managed to sort the problem out in a matter of minutes. There’s no doubting this is a strong driver at a reasonable price. It offers distance and forgiveness in a great-looking package. The stock stiff shaft is lighter and softer than the aftermarket options and won’t suit everyone. Note that the two rings on the uptight hosel don’t represent loft and lie respectively – there’s loft and lie settings on both cogs. So set the loft first, then the lie angle.

The Pro Version features a smaller, 440c head with more neutral bias designed for more workability, and delivers penetrating trajectories with low spin. It costs the same as the standard version and comes in an 8.5° head and can be tweaked from 7.5°-10.5°.

  • Callaway X2 Hot 2 & 3 Deep Fairway Woods Review

Callaway’s new X2 Hot and X2 Hot Pro drivers are all about ball speed. Both drivers are highlighted by Callaway’s Hyper Speed Face made of 455 Carpenter steel.

In 2013, Callaway used 455 Carpenter steel in the face of its X Hot fairway woods. The clubs were so successful at retail that Callaway decided to use the material in the faces of all its X2 Hot metalwoods (drivers, fairway woods and hybrids) for 2014.

Both drivers include Callaway’s OptiFit adjustable hosel. Not only does this mean that golfers easily can change shafts, OptiFit also provides independent loft and lie adjustment as well as shot-shape adjustment (neutral or draw). There are eight settings.

The loft range varies from 2 degrees up to 1 degree down from the stock loft of each driver. Lofts for X2 Hot are 9, 10.5 and 13.5 HT. For X2 Hot Pro, only one loft is available: 8.5 degree. With loft adjustment, the Pro model can be lowered to 7.5 degree or raised as high as 10.5 degree.

A 7-gram nonadjustable external weight screw can be found in the back of the X2 Hot Pro.

X2 Hot Driver Adjustments

The X2 Hot head is 460 cc in volume, while the X2 Hot Pro head is 440 cc. X2 Hot is 46 inches in length, and X2 Hot Pro is 45.5 inches.

Callaway says the face of the X2 Hot driver is 4 percent larger than the face of the previous X Hot model, without adding any weight.

Because X2 Hot Pro is intended to provide more workability off the tee than the X2 Hot, the MOI (moment of inertia, or resistance to twisting) of the X2 Hot is higher than that of the X2 Hot Pro.

The standard shaft for the X2 Hot driver is the Aldila Tour Blue, while the X2 Hot Pro driver comes with the Aldila Tour Green shaft. The Aldila Tour Blue shaft is somewhat softer than the Tour Green and produces a higher trajectory. Tour Green has been more popular than Tour Blue on the PGA Tour, but Bill Haas and a few other players have used Tour Blue.

Retail cost of either driver is $349.99. All the products in the X2 Hot family are scheduled to be available to consumers Jan. 17.
